ZachIR's Blog - Modern Design Sucks, II
"Modern Design" is the Worst Thing to Happen to Websites
Let's look at some other popular websites.
The Youtube homepage takes up 3.03 MB.
The Twitter homepage takes up 4.90 MB.
The Google homepage takes up 1.69 MB.
Additionally, Nitter does a lot better than Twitter, at 44.43 KB.
This is what it's like using many "modern" webpages. I will never forget the glitch I got when using Ting's website where the website continued to perpetually load more and more "Sign in with Amazon" buttons. Which is annoying enough, but every other time one would load, it would push everything below them in the website down, meaining the regular sign-in area was constantly getting moved. And this is not specific to Ting, this is just the easiest, most concrete example I have from my own experience.
So, in conclusion, the modern web is bloated, and this is a problem for everyone, not just users. There is more to the "Modern Design Sucks" arguments I have, however, I would like to write about something different for my next post. Something a little more, positive.
